Here’s the story behind my NEW SHIRT
There's a beautiful story in Scripture I've always been amazed by. It's the story of a dad who went to find Jesus because his daughter was on her deathbed. Jesus agrees to go to his house and heal his daughter. But even as they are making their way there are some costly delays that make the trip longer. The delay was Jesus healing someone else. They got back on their way but at some point along the way, friends of the dad's came to let him know his daughter had passed away. If it weren't for that delay! But Jesus looks at this father and says, "Don't be afraid. Just Believe!" (You've got to read the whole story, it's so good--it's found in Mark 5.) On one hand this dad is face to face with the reality his friends are telling him, "She's gone don't bother the Teacher" and yet he has Jesus saying "Don't fear what you've just heard. Can you trust Me?".
He chooses to trust Jesus. Jesus arrives at their home and walks right past all those grieving and wailing... He literally empties the house except for a few and Jesus raises up this sweet 12 year old girl. There are so many lessons to be seen here, but at this moment I want to zero in on one thing--because where I'm at and what we have been walking through, I am teary for this daddy. He came to Jesus for a miracle but God had a resurrection in mind.
Sometimes we come to Him asking for one thing and we wait and wonder if He's heard us. But then His whisper comes, "Do you believe? Do you believe I'm good? Do you believe I've got a good plan in this? Don't be afraid!" Because sometimes He's in the process of bringing forth something greater than the miracle you have in mind. It requires faith on our end, which sounds easier than it is, but if you really know this God you realize you have nothing to fear. Trusting what He has planned all rests upon His character. And to name just a few examples of His character: He is loving, kind, compassionate, gracious, merciful... and that's only the ones listed in Nehemiah 9:31 to get you started.
I've asked God for some BIG things over the last year and a half. Some things He said yes to, some things I felt like He was saying yes but you'll have to wait, and I've received some no's too. The no's are always harder to swallow, BUT in His kindness He says no because He's saying yes to something better. That's not just a Christian Cliche that's a real truth that our hearts need to wrap themselves around.
So this tshirt stands for those out there that are praying for that miracle. Or maybe you've been praying for a long time and you're weary. Or maybe you haven't prayed at all, and if you're honest, the reason is your heart is a little bitter and confused. Jesus is whispering this to hearts right now, "Don't be afraid. Just Believe." And maybe you, like myself, need to realize we aren't believing IN the miracle we are believing ON our God. Our eyes need to be on our Jesus not on what He can do for us! We don't know what He has planned! It might be better than what we are asking for! You might have a miracle in mind but He might want to resurrect the thing! Let Him do what He wants to do in your life, in your story, in the stories of those around you! Don't be afraid! Believe IN HIM! His good is better than your good. His character speaks for itself.
