One of those no-good-rotten anniversaries, if you will. It's the day my sister and I lost our first husbands. It’s a bittersweet day. We said goodbye this side of heaven, but for two followers of Jesus, it was the day when they saw their Savior face to face. When we remember that, our hearts rejoice for their faith has been made sight. But for my sister and I, we began a journey into the depths of grief.\u003cbr\u003eIt was a testing of faith.\u003cbr\u003eA refining of self.\u003cbr\u003eA leaving behind of everything we thought was “our story” to embrace His story for our lives.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eUnfortunately, death is a reality for us here and now, but the BIGGER reality and promise I have found among my ashes is the nearness and faithfulness of God. He has used this moment in my life to bring ME to life. He has been my Companion. He has brought healing. And one day I'll get to thank my Jesus in person... but until then I press in and press on as I follow the Way. He is the only Way through this life. There are things in my life that I've talked to the Lord about and I'm hopeful as I wait on Him. Things I pray over my children that I'm hopeful for. There are things I want for my friends that when I am on my knees for them, hope rises. Not just for all our \"dreams\" to come true... not just happiness... but something deeper. And only God knows what that should and does look like for each person. So when I thought about others waiting for happiness I was thinking about how powerful it is to HOPE. The Bible says we should be hopeful. That we should and can trust God with all things in our lives. It made me reflect on the waiting... the trusting of a sovereign God to write our story. It may not always play out the way we would like it to, or believe it should, BUT He is a good God and is always working. So maybe we trade our desire for happiness and let our hearts be full of hopiness as we trust our God, come what may. And it says hope will not disappoint. That makes me smile, because hoping in the One who loves us the way He does will not disappoint--it leads to fulfillment-- a joy that is way better than happiness.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSo here's to\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHOPINESS:\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003ethe state of being hopeful, expectant, and certain. It moves me in the deepest of places. It takes me on a journey each time I listen to it. It makes me want to cry and at the same time it makes me rejoice because it reminds me of His tender care for me in every season of my life. When I hear it I feel like everything inside me is raising my hand saying, \"YES! Lord, this is our song! Oh...You, my God, did not fail! That's the story I'll tell.\" \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eI never tire of telling of His faithfulness because He alone rescued me. His absolute love over a girl that wanted to run... wanted to hide... wondered how she would survive the dark nights--BUT GOD. He saw me. He saved me. He was always enough. It has woven it’s way into my everyday life. These words spur me on, redirect my priorities, and give me hope to keep going. We have such a legacy in the faith, don’t we? Whether it’s the people we read about in Scriptures or those that we are blessed to live life with that lived and loved their God well this side of heaven. They ran their race and now pass the baton to us. I often think of those I love that are now in the presence of their God. What would they say to us? What would they want us to desperately know? I think they’d say, “He’s worth it! All this… the hard things, the good things, the life we know now… one day it’ll make sense. But above all He’s worth the run!” And so, my friends, let us set our eyes on the prize… fixing our eyes on Jesus… and RUN, throwing off anything and everything that holds us back. It says we have this “sin that so easily entangles”—and isn’t that the truth. But we run and throw it off and keep running and keep throwing it off. She reached out to me a few months ago and said she needed these words in front of her. He says after you have suffered a little while He Himself will RESTORE you and make you STRONG, FIRM, and STEADFAST. I’m waiting to see this fulfilled in our current trial. (I needed to be reminded it’s only for a little while.) But He’s always been faithful, He can’t not be. It’s just who He is. So I wait with expectation that this suffering will produce beauty. But tonight I’m lifting up my tear-filled eyes and fixing them not on what I can see but on what I can’t. He’s helping me see. I see through the mirror dimly. We are in the middle of uncertainty. Maybe you are too or someone you love. Feels like you are out in the middle of nowhere, dark clouds surrounding and all you can pray for is wisdom. HELP! I don’t know how many times I’ve said this in my recent prayers, “Help us! God is near. In this season I have felt His covering, His presence. Even in the gut-wrenching moments I have experienced His shadow. Most of the time, as a painter, I go into a project with a fairly good idea of what I’m going to do before I do it, but this piece came together as I went along. I hadn’t planned on making her dress out of some of the songs I’ve been singing until… it just started happening. Here are the three songs that appear in her dress: Goodness of God, Firm Foundation, and In Christ Alone. I have a feeling these are probably songs many of you have been singing too.
