I have to say this is one of my favorite verses in all of Scripture— Hebrews 12:1-2.
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus.”
I wanted to give this artwork a proper introduction. It has woven it’s way into my everyday life. These words spur me on, redirect my priorities, and give me hope to keep going. We have such a legacy in the faith, don’t we? Whether it’s the people we read about in Scriptures or those that we are blessed to live life with that lived and loved their God well this side of heaven. They ran their race and now pass the baton to us. I often think of those I love that are now in the presence of their God. What would they say to us? What would they want us to desperately know? I think they’d say, “He’s worth it! All this… the hard things, the good things, the life we know now… one day it’ll make sense. But above all He’s worth the run!” And so, my friends, let us set our eyes on the prize… fixing our eyes on Jesus… and RUN, throwing off anything and everything that holds us back. It says we have this “sin that so easily entangles”—and isn’t that the truth. But we run and throw it off and keep running and keep throwing it off. We don’t quit!
Our Jesus showed us how to run the race. Now we are invited to run. Our lives are but a mist, y’all, we’re here for such a short time… but let me echo the great cloud of witnesses when I say, “Run! He’s worth it!” And one day we’ll reach the finish line to hear Him say, “Well done, my good and faithful servant. Well done.”
